Suspect In Deadly Painesville Shooting Arraigned On Murder Charges
Arraigned on Monday, Dylan H. Stalnaker, 28, faces a charge of murder, carrying with it a sentence of 15 years to life in prison. The victim, Bo Martin, 52, was pronounced dead at Lake West.
PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Johnny Gringo on Chester Street in Painesville was the scene of a fatal shooting at 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Bo Martin, 52, was shot and killed by Dylan Stalnaker, 28, police said.
According to a statement issued Monday by Painesville police, hours after Stalnaker’s arraignment, Martin was outside the bar working security when Stalnaker approached. An argument ensued, followed by a physical altercation, before Stalnaker brandished a firearm and fired one shot at Martin, striking him.
A bystander wrestled the gun away from Stalnaker and held him to the ground with the help of another bystander. Police were notified, and the suspect was held outside the bar until officers arrived.
According to a statement released Saturday by the Painesville Police Department, officers attempted life-saving measures at the scene until paramedics arrived to transport Martin to University Hospitals Lake West. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police said Stalnaker was transported to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. After treatment, he was taken to the Lake County Jail and charged with murder.

Judge Paul R. Malchesky presided over Stalnaker’s arraignment on Monday, where the suspect, appearing in court with his attorney via teleconference from the Lake County Jail, entered a not guilty plea.
Malchesky set a probable cause hearing for Monday, Dec. 1. Stalnaker will remain in the Lake County Jail with no bond.

Martin, a resident of Mentor, was a beloved member of the community. In addition to working in security, he owned a landscaping company in Mentor.
“He had a great heart, he was a great guy, he would do anything for you,” said K.J., owner of Lux Auto Spa and Detail Shop. “My prayers to the family. He will be missed.”
Martin’s twin brother was killed in an automobile crash just years earlier.
